On the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the Treaty of Paris, which marked the end of the Crimean War, and of the centennial of the battles of Verdun and of the Somme, the Bonapartist Movement relaunches our appeal to the citizens and residents of France and of the United Kingdom to sign our online petition in support of our armed forces and police of both countries.  Unacceptable delays in the payment of salaries and pensions, senseless budget cuts and veterans living in poverty and even forced to sell their medals to survive, are so many reasons among others which in other professions have caused strikes and demonstrations on both sides of the Channel.

That is why we, Bonapartists or simply citizens or inhabitants of France or of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, must, as our forebears did, unite in defence of those who defend us as before in 1854, 1914 and 1940. That is also why, in accordance with Article I of the presidential decision of the 17th of February 2015, we support, in each country in which our movement counts faithful supporters, the « institutions, associations and services which take aid and assistance to our war veterans, war widows, wards of the nation (orphans), victims of war and of terrorism, families of military personnel, rescuers or police officers severely wounded or killed in the course of their duty ».

The Bonapartist Movement, faithful to the principles that have inspired our combat for the Cornflower of France throughout the Francophonie, also supports, as ever, through our members citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other states and territories of the Commonwealth, the work of the Poppy and initiatives aiding veterans and police personnel and, wherever necessary, their families.

Faithful to the legacy of Napoleon the Great, architect of the peace of Amiens, of Napoleon III, architect of the Franco-British alliance in 1853, and of Napoleon IV, former student of the Military academy at Woolwich, we are also faithful to the spirit that caused De Gaulle and Churchill, in a common honourable response, to refuse to surrender to Nazi Germany in 1940. Equally, we are conscious of our duties to the memory and the combat of the French parachutists who served under the orders of the Scot David Stirling, founder of the SAS, as we are in solidarity with « the oldest alliance in the world », cited by De Gaulle in his speech in Edinburgh on the 23rd of June 1942, and applied by him in his capacity as head of Free France.

That is why, just as in 1916 the « Poilus » defended Verdun at the same moment at which the « Tommies » launched their assaults on the Somme, we launch an appeal to the solidarity of the peoples with their defenders,  for want of the possibility of founding our hopes on the gratitude of governments.

Thus, we demand :

–          An end to the destruction of jobs and to cuts in the budget

–          The due payment of pay and pensions of the armed forces and police

–          An acceptable standard of living for retired veterans and dependents of the police and armed forces and the restitution of their decorations to those who have been forced to sell them, by the State.

auld alliance
