NAPOLEON III Visiting the cholera patients at the Hôtel-Dieu
On the 20th of October 1865, at the height of the epidemic, the emperor, whom no danger holds back when holding out a helping hand to the weak or the less fortunate, paid an unscheduled visit to the Hôtel-Dieu. During more than an hour, His Majesty made his way through the wards, stopping at the bed of all the patients touched by cholera, questioning them, reassuring them, and bestowing upon them the most deeply felt consolations. The emotion was great amongst these poor people, and many eyes were dampened by tears, but it broke out no less strongly outdoors, and when the emperor departed, a large crowd, which had spontaneously gathered on the Place Notre-Dame, expressed, by its warm cheers and applause, its thanks to the Sovereign for his untiring care for all those who suffer.
Such is the great act of courageous devotion and truly christian charity which produced in the people of Paris, and of all of France, such a profound sentiment of admiration and of gratitude for Napoleon, who braves danger in the face of sickness as he does under the fire of enemy cannons.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the victory of Ulm, on the 20th of October 1805, of that of the visit of the emperor Napoleon III to the cholera patients of the Hôtel-Dieu on the 20th of October 1865, and of that of Austerlitz, on the 2nd of December 1805, the Bonapartist Movement relaunches and reaffirms its fight to hold out a helping hand to the weak and the less fortunate. We invite all of our own to seize this opportunity, at this end of the year 2015, to make heard and to pass on our message, to share the articles and open letters hereafter enclosed, and to help, each of us our neighbour, for the Honour of our country, and for the sacred interests of Humanity.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, AND LONG LIVE THE EMPEROR !
