EVERYTHING FOR AND BY THE PEOPLE
« For the Honour of France, for the sacred interests of Humanity » (Napoleon the Great, 17 ventôse year VIII / 8th of March 1800)
To His Excellency François Hollande, President of the French Republic, co-prince of Andorra,
15th of July 2013
The postage stamp inspired by the founder of the Femen which has just been published is an insult to the freedom of worship guaranteed by the Constitution of the Fifth Republic. If this work has its place as much as any other in a gallery in the name of freedom of expression and freedom of art – and we condemn of course the fact that the exhibition of one of the two artists was ransacked – it has no place on a stamp where it constitutes an official hommage to unconstitutional and illegal acts. While it is true also that it was high school students who chose this image, it is the Head of State who must ensure the respect of the Constitution and laws. To present as a symbol of the Republic an individual who commits exhibitionnist and illegal acts in a place of worship such as the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, and who attacks in word and deed all forms of religion, is to accord the support of the State to a slap for all those who, believers, agnostics, atheists or free thinkers, wish only for the respect of the their conscience within the limits foreseen by the law. And every excess bringing a reaction in the other direction, it is to be feared that this mixing of genres will envenom an already tense situation between two parties whose confrontation threatens to annihilate France.
Universal suffrage having borne you to the highest office of the Republic, we pray you therefore to take the measures that are necessary by removing this stamp. For the concorde that our country so needs « is not the triumph of any party, but the conciliation of all ».
President of the Bonapartist Movement
