Presentation of the situation.
Within the framework of our annual call to arms on the anniversary of the creation of the Court of Accounts by Napoleon the Great, on the 16th of September 1807, we exhort our members and supporters to support their local businesses. This equally implies support for local farmers and by a campaign to uphold and maintain public services and local businesses, particularly in rural areas and urban areas distant from large town centres.
« Today ».
Free trade for all.
Convinced, like the Emperor, that agriculture is no less than « the soul, the foundation » of a nation, that industry is « the prosperity, the happiness of the population », and that exports are none other than the « surplus, the good use of the other two » [Napoleon the Great, The Memorial of Saint Helena (Sunday 23rd of June 1816). Idées Napoléoniennes. Ch.I, p55. (1839)], we ask of States, associations, professional bodies and individuals to support the implementation of measures ensuring local produce and fair trade for all.
« Tomorrow ».
Creation of an International Agricultural Union.
Convinced also that « free trade begins at home », but that « unity is strength » we ask of farmers that that they unite through an international agricultural union, in order to reconcile their differences in the face of those who seek to divide them by unfair competition, to ensure harmonisation of their interests so as to better defend them.
